Orlando, Florida, March 7, 2024 – EIZO Rugged Solutions Inc., a provider of ruggedized graphics and video products, has introduced the Talon RGD2443W – a 24-inch 4K rugged LCD monitor for displaying high-detail applications, such as those used in naval display systems, mission/ground control stations, and airborne ISR operations.

SWaP-C (size, weight, power, and cost) constraints often limit the mechanical and technical capabilities of modern LCD monitors, especially for solutions introducing 4K or higher resolution supported systems. Devices must be able to work with legacy interfaces and meet the physical specifications of existing enclosures, while providing innovative technologies to support evolving rugged systems. The Talon RGD2443W is designed to meet demanding SWaP-C requirements with housing that measures 599 x 369 x 70 mm1 and total weight of less than 10 kg1, 2, without compromising on screen resolution or advanced visual technologies.

The Talon RGD2443W displays at 4K resolution (3840 x 2160 pixels) for viewing critical details. It is more compact than or comparable to existing 24-inch WUXGA (1920 x 1200 pixels) or 23-inch FHD (1920 x 1080 pixels) monitors, offering high resolution display in a minimal physical footprint. This makes it ideal for space-constrained environments where modern or advanced visual applications may be used, such as in surface and sub-surface consoles.

Flicker exhibited by LCD displays can cause eye fatigue for operators and affect image clarity. To alleviate flicker in images, such as those in sonar applications, EIZO has developed its own flicker compensation algorithm called E-LFC (EIZO LCD Flicker Compensation). E-LFC, available as an option for the Talon RGD2443W, ensures that sonar images are clear and details are discernible to the operator, while also addressing eye fatigue caused by a flickering screen.

Multitouch capability is increasingly in demand for surface and subsurface consoles, naval shipboard applications, aircraft carriers, and ground control stations. The Talon RGD2443W features a projected capacitive (PCAP) touchscreen with 10-point multitouch for fast and intuitive operation. Touch panel monitors are produced in-house in EIZO’s own ISO Class 1 clean room for reliability. The monitor is also available with optical bonding, which is produced in-house at EIZO’s own facilities, for increased durability, visibility, and touch accuracy.

The Talon RGD2443W is qualified for MIL-STD-810 for vibration, shock, altitude, and extreme temperatures. It is also qualified for MIL-STD-461, which is typically more challenging for touch panel monitors to achieve, for protection against electromagnetic interference. Furthermore, it has an IP65 rating for the front and rear3, making it dust-tight and effectively protected against liquid.

Every Talon rugged monitor is designed, manufactured, and tested in-house by expert engineers at EIZO’s own facilities. This includes the monitor’s main controller board and other circuitry, LCD unit, optical bonding, housing, and more. This allows EIZO to control the production process from development onward to ensure quality, minimize delivery lead time, and provide extended lifecycle support.
